Mrs. Beninson's parents were Jewish immigrants from Latvia. Her father was a cabinet maker. The family came to Manchester during the first world war because of the air raids in London. They opened their own shop in Redbank, Cheetham Hill, Manchester. After attending the Jews School she went into the waterproofing and tailoring trade.
