Jack was born in c.1907 in Strong Street, Broughton to Jewish Roumanian parents. His father was a traveller and died when Jack was 5. Jack was the 10th of 10 children. He attended Waterloo Road School and became an ardent member of J.L.B., which he joined at the age of 11. He eventually became a CO Sergeant Major and didn't leave J.L.B. unti a few years after he was married (post 1932). He became a waterproof cutter when he left school then worked in a ladies clothing business. He eventually came to own 4 clothing factories of his own.
