Dr. Chadwick was born in 1905 on Cheetham Hill Road to a Polish/Jewish father and a Russian/Jewish mother from Odessa. They had emigrated separately in c.1890. Theodore's father was a tailor. His parents married in England in 1894. Theodore went to the Jews School then to Central High and then to Manchester University to read medicine. From 1912 the family lived in Heywood Street. They were great supporters of Zionism - hence his name Theodore Herzl.
