Abraham (Pudsie) was born in 1910 in Mary Street, Strangeways to Jewish parents from Odess on the borders of Russia and Poland. They had come to Manchester in 1905/6. His father was a master cabinet maker and his mother a dressmaker. Pudsie was the 6th of 6 children and went to the Jews School. He was an active member of JLB with which he was connected - running the table tennis team - until his death in c.1979. He worked his way through JLB ranks till he became 2nd Lieutenant. On leaving school he became a traveller for a wholesale haberdashery firm. He married in 1938 and went to live in Prestwich.
