Custodial history:
Katie, nee Lerman was born in 1900 in Glasgow to Russian Jewish immigrants. Her father was from Telz and her mother from Lithuania. She was one of 7 children. The family moved from Glasgow in 1902 and settled in 8 Clarrissa Place, then Lord Street, then Redbank and finally in Edward Street in 1914. Her father was a traveller, a schmeerer and a Rebbe and her mother was a hand sewer and unofficial midwife. Katie went to Southall Street school and left to become a machinist at 14. She did not marry until 1954. Many of the photographs are of her brothers and sisters (Lermans).
