Annie was born in 1891 in Yasse Roumania. She emigrated with her family in 1901. Her father opened a fruit and vegetable shop. Long Millgate, and was the Shammas of the Austrian shul on Waterloo Road. Annie was only c.11½ when she went to work making caps. She married an English born man in 1913 and went to live in Dudley Street and then Bellott Street for c.1916. Her husband, Nathan, was born in London and came to Manchester when very young. He attended Waterloo Road school and became a machinist, then manager at Cohen and Wilkes where his father worked as a presser.
