Hilda Broadhurst, nee Birkett was born in Hyde in 1916. Her father, John Birkett, was born in Woodley in 1889 and was a calicoe print designer. Her mother, May, nee Herrod, was born in Bury in 1889. John and May married in 1915. Hilda married George Broadhurst. He was born in 1910 and was a master painter and decorator, now retired. They have three children, George born in 1939, Hazel Jean born 1941 and Linda May born 1951, all living in Hyde.
