Mrs. Ward was born in South Reddish, Stockport, in 1921. Moved to Edgeley in 1933. Maiden name Bailey. Left school at 14 to work in Isaac Pearson's Mill in Stockport, under viaduct, as a beamer, stayed for a few months then spent similar periods at mills in Longsight and another two in Stockport. Then worked 1938-39 for a German hat-band manufacturer in Edgeley. Spent the whole of World War Two doing railway work at Edgeley Station, when War ended she went to work at Deans print-works, Stockport Road, Cheadle Heath, where she met her husband.
Mrs. Ward's father from Macclesfield. His family, nine children, moved to Stockport in 1895. He was Clerk of Works at Mayfield Station, Manchester, worked on the railways for 45 years.
Mrs. Wards mother one of ten children, from Stockport, family named Cheetham.
Mrs. Wards husband from Liverpool. His father was editor of Liverpool Evening Express. Mr. Ward born in Dumfries in 1893, served apprenticeship at Blake and McKenzie's commercial printers, Liverpool. Played professional football for Everton - friend of Dixie Dean. He joined regular army c.1910, served during Great War as regimental sergeant major for the Liverpool Scottish Regiment. Stayed in army 'til c.1921, then compositor in Liverpool, then similar work in Withy Grove Manchester, then to Deans in Cheadle Heath.
