John Harley born 1915, came from a family of 14, of which six are still living. His father George was in weaving and came from Rochdale where most of the family are still living. John's mother, Sarah Allen Harvey (nee Trelfall) came from Burnley and was a weaver. John married Jane Ann Matthews (born Wigan 1916) in 1939. Her family came to Rochdale when Jane was still at school. They had three children and one stillborn. John worked all his life in the cotton industry and c.1960 took a course and qualified as an instructor in that trade.
