Father from Worcester, mother from Reigate. They moved to Trafford Park, where his sister already had a grocers (Allen's, later Marrow's) on Third Avenue, for him to work at Westinghouse. Previously he was in the Grenadier Guards, with whom he served during World War One, whilst Mrs. Hill became a munitions worker in Trafford Park. They initially lived on Third Street, moved to 11th. Street (where Mrs. Burke was born in 1927) until bombed out during World War Two, then to 10th Street.
Mrs. Burke one of twelve children (though three died in infancy). Her husband worked at Curry's butchers on Third Avenue, which he eventually took over.
All the photographs come from Mrs. Burke's parents' collection, which she kept after they died.
