Father from Salford, mother from Longridge (her father died when she was a baby, subsequently brought up by an aunt Alice in Whit Lane, Pendleton). Mrs. Brayshaw was born in Rusholme in 1905, one of eleven children, eight of whom died in infancy. Father worked as a bread roundsman for `Hamers' of Rusholme, delivered to the big houses in Fallowfield and Withington; he got smallpox just after Mrs. Brayshaw was born, had to change jobs and became an itinerant gardener and odd job man in Rusholme/Withington area (among others, he worked for William Hulme's prep. school and the Holt family of `Holt's Brewery') He died, aged 63, in 1928. Mother didn't work. Mrs. Brayshaw went to Holy Trinity School, Platt Lane, Rusholme. Left at 14 for office-work at Oxendale's, Granby Row, Manchester. Worked till marriage in 1935. Met husband at dance at the Adelphi Lads Club, Salford. He was from Salford, worked at a Manchester shipping agents; his father a sergeant with Salford Docks Police.
