Special Collections: Private Press Collection

These were built up from the 19th century by purchase and donation and continued to be added to up to the 1960s. Of around 1700 volumes as many as around 500 are considered to be rare by virtue of their age, typographic quality, edition size or historical significance. The collection covers many of the better known private presses (for example, Kelmscott and Strawberry Hill) as well as a number of lesser known ones. The collection is shelved in alphabetical order by press.
