The first meeting took place in a cottage in 1803 and the first chapel was built in Heyes Lane in 1833. A new chapel in Stockport Road was opened in 1847, was rebuilt in 1883 and extended in 1897 with the addition of a new school building. The church belonged to Altrincham Wesleyan Circuit, after 1932 Altrincham Methodist Circuit. In 1937 a new chapel was built further along Stockport Road and the old chapel was used as a Sunday school until it was requisitioned for ARP purposes during the Second World War and later sold in 1959. That same year a new Sunday school was opened next to the church.
