The Bowdon Wesleyan Mission started near Primrose Cottages during the 1870's. The chapel in Vicarage Lane (formerly known as Priory Street) was opened in 1883 and the building underwent alterations in 1970. The church belonged to Altrincham Wesleyan Circuit and is now part of the successor Altrincham Methodist Circuit.
