The church was opened in around 1887 and belonged to Manchester 2nd United Free Methodist Church Circuit, re-named Manchester (Oxford Road) United Methodist Circuit after the Methodist Union of 1907. In 1934 Temple joined Manchester (Hulme and Whalley Range) Methodist Circuit, transferred to the successor Manchester (Chorlton and Moss Side) Methodist Circuit in 1948 and transferred again in 1957 this time to Cadishead Wesley Circuit. Temple closed in 1972 and its members joined Glazebrook Centenary church.
