Manchester (Culcheth) Methodist Circuit

1850-1958
Archives
The origins of the Culcheth Circuit lie in the Manchester (North) Methodist New Connexion Circuit, which was formed in 1852 when the Manchester MNC Circuit was divided into 'North' and 'South' (and the collection contains one item, an abstract of title deeds, relating to the Manchester Circuit). The churches of the North Circuit were situated in Higher Blackley (Zion in Crab Lane), Culcheth (Droylsden Road), Failsworth (Bethel in Oldham Road), Strangeways (Salem, which later moved to Higher Broughton), Miles Platting (Wilson Street), Moston (St Mary's Road), Newton Heath (St Paul's in Ten Acres Lane) and Pendleton (Cromwell Road). After the Methodist Union of 1907, the circuit became the Manchester (North) United Methodist Circuit. In 1936, after the Methodist Union of 1932, it became Manchester (Culcheth) Methodist Circuit and Salem, Zion and Cromwell Road transferred to Manchester (Cheetham Hill) Circuit. In 1958 Culcheth Circuit joined Manchester (Oldham Road) Circuit to form Manchester (Newton Heath) Methodist Circuit.
