Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway School became Cornwall Street School 1 May 1894. The School moved to Varna Street 25 October 1897. Varna Street Senior Mixed School was formed in 1934 by the amalgamation of Varna Street Boys School, Varna Street Girls School, Varna Street Central School and Abbey Hey Mixed School. The Senior Mixed Department changed its name to Higher Openshaw Secondary Modern School in September 1953. Closed June 1967.
