The church was opened in 1873 and was known as `Chorlton New Chapel' (Beech Road Wesleyan was `Chorlton Old Chapel). It was a member of Manchester (Radnor Street) Wesleyan Circuit and continued through the circuit's successors, Manchester (Hulme and Whalley Range) Methodist Circuit and Manchester (Chorlton and Moss Side) Methodist Circuit. It was joined by High Lane ex-Primitive Methodist society in 1960 and then transferred to Manchester (Withington) Methodist Circuit in 1970.
