Chain Bar Methodist (ex-UMFC) Church, Moston

1869-1981
Archives
The society was founded in 1862 as a mission from the Street Fold United Methodist Free Church in Moston. Its first home was a cottage on Turnpike Farm and the name Chain Bar arose from the nearby toll bar which, instead of a gate, had a chain fastened between two posts. A new chapel building was built and opened in 1866. Initially a member of Manchester 1st United Methodist Free Church (Lever Street) Circuit, the church joined Manchester (North East) United Methodist Circuit in 1907. It moved to Manchester (Harpurhey) Methodist Circuit in 1936, which was re-named Manchester (North East) Methodist Circuit in 1966, then transferred to Manchester (North) and Middleton Methodist Circuit in 1970.
