(Established in 1907 at the instigation of the Lord Mayor to provide friendship for the needy and obtain material relief from existing societies. In 1914 it became the Voluntary Workers Sub Committee, part of the Wartime Committee for the distribution of relief. It was re-formed in 1919. In 1958 it united with the District Provident Society, the new society becoming the Family Welfare Association of Manchester and Salford).
