Charles Ting Yim Chan MBE, JP (disc 7 'Charlie Chan'): Came over in 1965 and worked in a Chinese style café in Manchester that served mainly English people. He took over as manager and worked as the first interpreter to the Chinese community. His presence brought in many Chinese customers. He His brother, Chu Chan, owned a restaurant called Sun Ha in 1996/7 and he moved to work for him. He interpreted for the local government and public sector services as well. He was the first JP, translator and interpreter for Chinatown.
