William Hewitt, brother-in-law of the donor in c. 1906, according to the donor. He owned a newsagent's in Wellington Road, Withington, and managed at the same time the bookstall at a W.H. Smith branch at Fallowfield Station. The photo has been given a post-card backing (Gale's Studios) and was sent to the donor by William Hewitt, it is dated May 21, 1915 and reads: Dear Herbert, Letter to hand will attend to it. I have not joined yet, but it looks as if everyone would have to go before long. I hope you have a good time. Best wishes W.H.
