Barbara Elizabeth Thornely, sister of Donald, and daughter of Reginald Thornely. She was born in 1896 and this portrait was taken when she was about 4 years old. Her father Reginald worked in textiles and went out to India to manage a cotton mill. He died in 1904. Photographer: Mrs. Sam Radcliffe, Photographic Artist, 9, Newton Street, Hyde. Copies may be had at any time. The portrait has been painted all over. Background: brownish grey. Cane chair: yellowish. Flowers on the chair: white with orange centres. Flowers on the floor: a mixture of pink, orange, blues, yellows and white. Barbara's hair is brown, her dress is cream coloured, her boots and socks are dark brown. The flowers in her hand are pink.
