In 1996 queerupnorth again presented its own international film festival, with screenings of 'Beautiful Thing,' selected highlights of the 10th London Lesbian and Gay Festival and 'In bed with queerupnorth': a programme which was also shown at The Performance Space as part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in 1996. There was also a presentation of 'My Queer Career,' the annual selection of Australian gay and lesbian short films shown in Britain for the first time and a screening of 'Showgirls', which was a look at drag queens from the big stage shows of the 1950s.
