Diamanda Galas is an international vocalist and composer whom 'Rockpool Magazine' described as 'unquestionably one of the greatest singers America has ever produced'. Discovered at the Festival Avignon in 1979 by the Yugoslavian avant garde composer Vinko Globokar, Diamanda Galas has now attracted a relatively small but very devoted audience. She brought her new show 'La Serpenta Canta' to the Quays Theatre at the Lowry on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 September 2000. In the show Diamanda Galas performed music by Screaming Jay Hawkins, Willie Dixon, Shel Silverstein and Ornette Coleman, as well as her own compositions.
