On the advice of his Doctor the Author took a six week trip to the Mediterranean.Leaving from Birkenhead on 18th February 1885 with his passport, pistols, insect powder, candles, soap and a copy of Bradshaw’s Continental he travelled 5000 miles across Europe. A lovely example of travel writing before air travel.
