This plan view is of the ground floor, card room level with engine also on this level. Although long since gone there was enough evidence in the remains of stone beds, wheel pit and gearing wheel boxes etc etc to prove the engines to be of Sir William Fairbairns single cylinder coupled beams of approx 300 to 400 hp. 28 rpm 5to1 increase - 140 rpm verticals.
During the last few years the flax mill was occupied by a firm of scrap metal dealers for sorting and grading mostly non ferrous scrap and they called the place 'empire' works, like the people in Winterbottoms Adelphi Works (left) named in 'heather' mill or works.
Site review 1982 kind permission of Mr Enton Valuation and Estates Salford.
Drawn 1982 from past site data and review.
