Custodial history:
The Union Chapel, Fallowfield, situated at the junction of Wellington Road and Wilbraham Road, was formed from the amalgamation of Union Chapel, Oxford Road, Chorlton upon Medlock (founded 1842), and Fallowfield Baptist Church, Wilbraham Road, (founded 1923). The union formally took place in October 1949, though the two churches had worshipped together since 1941, following damage to the Union Chapel in the Blitz of December 1940 and joint Church Meetings had been held from December 1945. Fallowfield Baptist Church, was itself the result of the amalgamation in 1923 of Coupland St Chapel, Greenheys (founded 1886) and Withington Baptist Church, Mauldeth Road, (founded 1892). The McLaren Memorial People's Institute was founded in 1872 as a Mission of the Union chapel, Oxford Road, and was partially funded by its mother church. The Chapel of the Baptist College in Brighton Grove, Rusholme, was founded by a congregation from Bury in 1874. The Principal of the College was a trustee of Fallowfield Baptist Church in 1929.
