Consecrated 6 Oct 1869 its district was created by Order in Council of 9 Aug 1870 (London Gazzette 12 Aug 1970) from the parish of Harpurhey-cum-Moston, Christ Church. From Oct 1867 to Oct 1868 baptisms in the conventional district had been carried out in a licensed room at Chain Bar and from Nov 1868 to Oct 1869 in the newly built licensed church.
