The Wesleyan Methodist society in Longsight held classes in a preaching room for many years until a chapel was built in 1860. The building soon proved to be inadequate in meeting the needs of the growing population in Longsight and in 1867 the new church in Stockport Road was built and then extended in 1879. In 1865 a separate day and Sunday school was built on the corner of Richmond Grove East and South Street. Initially part of Manchester 3rd (Grosvenor Street) Wesleyan Methodist Circuit, Longsight Chapel left to head the Manchester (Longsight) Wesleyan Methodist Circuit in 1879. When that circuit was dissolved in 1944, the church was transferred to Manchester (South East) Methodist Circuit and when that circuit too was dissolved in 1970, the church joined the Manchester and Salford Mission. The church closed in around 1985.
