Custodial history:
The foundation stone of St Margaret's was laid on 3 October 1849 and the church opened in October 1851. It was not assigned a District until 1885, by Order in Council, 19 May (London Gazette, 22 May 1885) when part of the parish of Prestwich was assigned to it. In 1928 by Order in Council, 6 February, (London Gazette, 10 February) it received more of the parish of Prestwich, but part of its own District was assigned to St. Andrew's, Blackley. St. Andrew's, Hillock, was formed partly from St Margaret's by Order in Council, 6 September 1974 (London Gazette, 10 October).
