Custodial history:
The ancient chapel of Walmsley, in the township of Turton and parish of Bolton, existed in the 16th century, was rebuilt in 1771 and finally demolished in 1840. A new church was begun in October 1837 on a new site about a mile from the old chapel and was consecrated in October 1839. This was enlarged in 1867. A District was assigned to Christ Church by Order in Council, 10 July 1844 (London Gazette, 17 December)
St Andrew's Mission, Bromley Cross, is linked with Christ Church. Baptisms performed at St Andrew's are recorded in the Christ Church registers.
