This assortment of transparencies was cleared from the office of the City Marketing and Tourism Department to make space for new additions. The slides are typical of the material used to illustrate brochures, leaflets etc. designed to show the city as attractive, lively and an exciting place to visit.
Some slides carry labels in.d.icating an in-house in.d.exing system. They include the following codes:
Bu(c) (Buildings)
Bu(i) (Buildings)
Ch (Churches)
Cin (Cinemas)
Cit (City)
Con
Ed (Education - a very large section of the current deposit)
Ex (Exhibitions, Displays etc)
Hot (Hotels)
Hou (Housing)
Fr
Lei (Leisure)
There may only be one or two items un.d.er certain headings while other sections, like education, are represented in considerable numbers. There are, in addition, a fair selection of slides illustrating shops. Most items, however, carry no identification, not even a code label. The collection dates to the 1960s/70s and '80s.
