Custodial history:
St. John's was consecrated on 12 February 1848, and a District assigned from Edenfield and Walmersley by Order in Council, 8 August 1845 (London Gazette, 26 August).
In 1876 part of the parish was assigned to the new St. Andrew's, Ramsbottom, by Order in Council, 12 February (London Gazette, 15 February 1876).
In 1927 part was assigned to the new St. Philip's, Stubbins, by Order in Council, 20 December (London Gazette, 20 December 1927).
In 1981 St. John's parish was united with St. Paul's, Ramsbottom, as St. John and St. Paul, Ramsbottom, by Order in Council, 13 April (London Gazette, 16 April 1981), both churches remaining in use.
