Heaton Norris chapel was consecrated in July 1765. By Order in Council in Sept. 1838 (London Gazette, 26 Mar. 1839) it was assigned a District, as St. Thomas's District, Heaton Norris, comprising the townships of Heaton Norris, Levenshulme and Reddish. Later the size of the parish was reduced by the formation of Christ Church, Heaton Norris in 1846 St. John's, Heaton Mersey in 1852, St. Mary's, Reddish in 1865 St. Paul's, Heaton Moor in 1878, St. Elizabeth's, Reddish in 1884 and All Saints, Heaton Norris in 1888.
