This circuit, originally the Ogden Street Branch of the Manchester 1st Primitive Methodist Circuit, was formed in 1863 as the Manchester 4th Primitive Methodist Circuit. Churches belonging to the circuit were Ogden Street (later Higher Ardwick) and Hyde Road in Ardwick, Gorton Brook, Bradford and Clayton. In 1893 Clayton, Bradford Wellington Street and Higher Openshaw left to form Manchester 9th PM (Higher Openshaw) Circuit. The 4th Circuit continued, in time becoming known as Manchester (Higher Ardwick) Circuit and comprising the Higher Ardwick and Grey Street churches in Ardwick, Gorton Brook, Gorton Crossley Street and Levenshulme Cromwell Grove. The circuit was joined by Manchester (New Islington) ex-PM Circuit in 1947 and for a few years was known as Manchester (Higher Ardwick and New Islington) Methodist Circuit before reverting to Manchester (Higher Ardwick) Methodist Circuit. The circuit was dissolved in 1962 and its remaining churches joined Manchester (South East) Methodist Circuit.
