Custodial history:
Altrincham Wesleyan Methodist Circuit was formed in 1838 out of the Manchester Wesleyan Methodist Circuit. From 1850 it was known as Sale and Altrincham Wesleyan Methodist Circuit until a separate Sale Circuit was formed in 1886. Churches belonging to the circuit were:Altrincham (Bank Street Wesleyan Methodist), Altrincham (Borough Road Wesleyan Methodist), Bowdon Wesleyan Methodist, Bowdon Vale Wesleyan Methodist, Broadheath Wesleyan Methodist, Hale Wesleyan Methodist, Higher Baguley Wesleyan Methodist, Millington (Booth Bank) Wesleyan Methodist and Timperley Wesleyan Methodist. After the Methodist Union of 1932 the circuit was re-named Altrincham Methodist Circuit. The ex-Methodist New Connexion chapel in George Street, Altrincham, joined the circuit and a new church, Brownley Green Methodist in Wythenshawe, became a member (though in 1948 it left to join the new Wythenshawe Circuit). In 1935 churches from Lymm and Altrincham ex-Primitive Methodist Circuit were added, namely Altrincham (Oxford Road), Carrington and Dunham Massey. In the intervening years, particularly during the 1960's, several churches closed and societies were amalgamated. Altrincham Circuit currently comprises the following churches:Altrincham Methodist (Barrington Road), Bowdon Vale Methodist (ex-Wesleyan Methodist), Hale Methodist (ex-Wesleyan Methodist), Timperley Methodist (ex-Wesleyan Methodist)Associated former circuits:Lymm and Altrincham Primitive Methodist CircuitThe circuit, originally known as Lymm Primitive Methodist Circuit, was formed in 1855 from Warrington PM Circuit. By the end of the nineteenth century Altrincham PM Chapel on Oxford Road had become the leading church and from 1906 the circuit was known as Lymm and Altrincham Circuit. After the Methodist Union of 1932, the circuit was dissolved and its churches were closed or else transferred either to the Altrincham Methodist Circuit (Altrincham, Carrington and Dunham Massey churches) or to the Warrington Methodist Circuit (Oughtrington church). The circuit comprised the following churches:Altrincham (Oxford Road) PM, Broadheath (Devonshire Road) PM, Carrington PM, Dunham Massey (Woodhouses) PM, Lymm PM, Oughtrington (Broom Edge) PM
