The Special Collections within the Central Library cover a wide range of material. Much of what is now Manchester Archives and Local Studies, as well as the Jewish Collection, local societies' collections of books and periodicals, literary and historical collections, and the Thomas Greenwood Library for Librarians, was administered as Special Collections. Most of the remaining special collections can now be accessed via the Science and Humanities Library.
Arranged by function rather than by collection, so for example look in Accessions (M740/8/24/1/6) for the Manchester Central Philatelic Society accessions register, but in Correspondence (M740/8/24/2/19) for correspondence on the same collection.
