Cinerama'

1999-2000
Archives
Cinerama' was a collaboration between film maker Isaac Julien and dancer/choreograoher Javier de Frutos. It was an exhibition involving film, dance and visual art that took over all three galleries in Cornerhouse in Manchester. 'The Long Road to Mazatlan' was a multi screen installation exploring the mythologies of the American West: swimming pools, drive-in motels, showgirls, desert skies and cowboys. The film 'Vagabondia' contrasted the beauty of the Sir John Soane Museum in London with the building's darker history. Completing the show, a series of black and white photographs taken during the filming of 'Mazatlan' contrasted with the intense colour and vibrancy of the film itself. The show was presented free of charge at Cornerhouse from 19 August-17 September 2000 as part of that year's queerupnorth festival.
