Custodial history:
David Henick's parents were born in Austria. His father, Isaac, was a baker in Austria, but unable to find a job as a baker when he came to England, he got a job as a pressman, cutting soles and heels out for shoes. Isaac Henick was interned for 6 weeks in a camp at Queensferry during World War One, then he was released. Mr Henick and the detective that called round for him to take him to this camp, became friends and kept in touch after Mr. Henick's release. David Henick's parents were married in Austria. His father Isaac came to England first. He should have gone to the U.S.A. but he did not have enough money. Isaac's wife, Pessel, followed him to this country a little later. Her maiden name was Gruber. David Henick was born in 1902. He lived in the same house - number 11 Irwell Street, Salford, from then until 1960 when he moved to his present address. He left school at 14 and began work as a cutter for J and E Barlow in Sherbourne Street. He later moved to the H. Peacock Garment Company where he worked for 32 years until his retirement 14 years ago. David Henick's eldest sister Julia worked as a finisher. She married Philip Freedman, a machinist. They had 2 children. They lived in Rugby Street, Broughton and later Trafalgar Street. David Hanick's brother Charlie was by trade a waterproof-maker. He worked at one time for Goldstone and Davis in New Bridge Street. When this partnership split up Charlie Henick went to work for Davis in Moreton Street. Charlie married Eva Clark from Sunderland and they lived in Sunderland and Newcastle. Eva's father Mendel Clark used to buy material and sell it to the miners for weekly payments. Charlie Henick went into his father-in-law's trade - going into business with Mendel Clark and later with a Benny Leon. David Henick had a sister Bessie who worked for the Dannimac Company. She was presented with a watch for 25 years service. She first worked for them in Langston Street and went with them when they moved to Dutton Street. David Henick's sister Golda also worked as a machinist for the Dannimac Company. She now lives with David Henick at 18 Newington Avenue, Prestwich.
