queerupnorth's second year saw a range of events, with a season in the spring and in the autumn. The autumn season, which was the much larger and more concentrated of the two, was billed as 'The National Festival of Lesbian and Gay Arts 1993', and was a partner organisation to the Boddington's Manchester Festival of Arts and Television. The festival was made possible by building partnerships with organisations such as Cornerhouse and Gay Sweatshop. In their foreword to the festival brochure, Gavin Barlow and Tanja Farman say, 'It's Queer Up North' gives a voice to lesbian and gay artists. It promotes new artists with different perspectives and different things to say. It aims to expand the possibilities of 'queer' culture in the UK but, most important, it is a celebration - a celebration of the lesbian and gay experience.'
