The Domestic Mission School, Tomlison Street moved to new premises at Embden Street 13 November 1868. There appears to have been only a Boys Department and Infants Departments at this time. On 1 June 1880 the school was transferred to the School Board with accommodation for 778 pupils. A new building was erected for Embden Street School for 'Feeble Minded Children' in 1900 with one department for senior girls and mixed juniors and accommodation for 48 pupils. In August 1932 the school re-opened as a Junior Mixed and Infants School. The Senior Boys went to bangor Street Senior School. The school evacuated to Lytham St Anne's 2 September 1939. Re-opened 27 May 1940 for children remaining in Manchester. [From 19 March 1963 renamed Carlton School?] In April 1966 the school moved to new premises in Poynton Close and was re-named Martenscroft County Primary.
