Wellington Street School opened under Bradford School Board 14 January 1878. Organised as a single department until 3 October 1881 when Senior and Junior Boys Departments and a Girls Department were created and the school moved to Grange Street. Transferred to Manchester School Board in 1885. From 27 April 1886 girls were divided into Senior and Junior Departments. Due to overcrowding at Grange Street the Junior Boys Department moved to St. Aiden's School 9 November 1891.Senior Boys and Senior Girls moved to Johnson Street, Bradford [M66/38]. In 1910 HMI commented, 'the five departments in these two schools [Grange Street and Johnson Street] virtually constitute one large school' [junior girls log book p. 218]. When Grey Mare Lane School [M66/32] closed 16 March 1914 pupils were transferred to Grange Street. Further reorganisation took place in 1934 and the school became a Senior Boys School and Junior Mixed School. Senior Girls remained at Johnson Street. The Senior Boys School changed its name to Grange Street County Secondary School for Boys by 1951. It closed 20 July 1967 and boys transferred to Wright Robinson High School, Miles Platting Secondary School, Ravensbury Secondary School [M66/55]and Nicolls Secondary School [M66/172]. The Junior Mixed Department became Grange Street County Primary School, and closed 24 September 1971.
